https://www.rhein-eifel.tv – Saarburg is today a popular tourist town surrounded by vineyards, offering many cultural attractions and numerous recreational opportunities. The heart of Saarburg is the old Buttermarkt square, with the Leuk River flowing through it, plunging 18 meters into a deep drop at the end. Saarburg's current townscape owes its rich history to a turbulent history that began with the construction of the castle around the year 1000. This makes it one of the oldest hilltop castles in western Germany. The current ruins include remnants of the walls and a 21-meter-high keep, which now has a viewing platform open during the day. The mill complex, with its own museum, comprises three mills stacked one behind the other, whose wheels still turn below the waterfall. The building dates back to the 18th century. The lower town is characterized by the "Staden" alley, with mostly small houses, and the magnificent three-story Mabilon House, owned by the bell-founding family, dating from around 1700. Bells were cast in Saarburg from 1770 to 2002. Today, the completely preserved foundry is a museum with a café and a meeting place hosting many cultural events.
