ROSALIE'S BEQUEST The story of a painting
Harmony in Red is a painting by revered Scottish artist Anne Redpath OBE RSA RA. It spent 40 years in an invisible barn in the beautiful Borrowdale Valley near Keswick and then over 20 years unseen in the Keswick Museum. It was purchased directly from the artist in 1957 by Roasalie Charlton after she saw it in the 1957 Festival Exhibition. and hung in her tiny barn conversion When Rosalie died in 2000 aged 97 she left it in her will to Keswick Museum. along with Redpath's lithographs, letters and hand made cards. It has lain unseen and unloved in the store room in the basement of Keswick museum for more than 20 years. It has survived 3 major floods. This is the story of that beautiful, remarkable, valuable painting. It raises the question of making provision for our prized possessions in our wills.
