Ruthie Foster - "Walk On" (Live at the 2016 Dallas International Guitar Show)
Ruthie Foster performs Walk On at the Dallas International Guitar Show Ruthie Foster (guitar & vocals) _____________ RUTHIE FOSTER Singer. Song writer. Guitar player. Award Winner. Ruthie Foster has been a fixture of Texas music for most of her adult life. Growing up in Gause, Texas Ruthie Foster sang with her church choir before going off to college in Waco. While in college she fronted a blues band and then showing her penchant for doing the unconventional, Ms. Foster joined the Navy. Following her military service Foster moved to New York City to seek her fame and fortune. While singing in various folk venues around town, Atlantic Records offered her a recording contract. Choosing the road less traveled yet again, Foster turned Atlantic down and returned to Gause to care for her ailing mother. Beginning in 1997 Foster began steadily releasing albums of stellar quality every couple of years or so. She has received many awards including the Koko Taylor Award for Traditional Blues Female Artist of the Year in 2012 and her Live at Antone’s received the award for DVD of the Year. Foster frequently appears at venues nationally. Allmusic.com categorizes Ms. Foster’s music as “earthy, intimate and passionate” and has awarded each of her albums 4 or more stars. Allmusic also lists Foster’s music under the diverse categories of R&B, Blues and Country because she is difficult to pigeonhole. After all, in what category do you place a musician who chooses to feature a Stevie Wonder tune on the same album on which she sings War Pigs? The answer to that question can only be Ruthie Foster who, with her melodious voice and tendency for doing the unconventional, is a true Texas original. _________________ Please leave a comment below with your thoughts.
