Welcome to a new chapter of Tunaontour! Today we're tackling a question many road users ask themselves: "Is the dirt running out on the Antakari Route?" Join me on what could be "The last gravel challenge to the Elqui Valley." 🏍️💨 The journey begins at the gateway to the Limarí Valley, after a long stretch from Santiago. After a strategic stop in Ovalle, we head into the foothills along Route D-595, skirting the historic Recoleta Reservoir. The road takes us to the heart of the Hurtado River Valley, passing through small towns steeped in history like Tahuinco and Tabaqueros, until we reach Hurtado, the valley's former nerve center with its incredible church dating back to 1911. This is where the real adventure begins: the legendary Antakari Route. In this chapter, I show you the current state of this ancient route. Of the 45 km between Hurtado and Vicuña, 18 km are already paved or are in preparation. We face the challenging "chusca," that fine, deceptive dust that tests our grip and patience, as we push forward with the mission of reaching the Pangue viewpoint by sunset.
