However, the introduction of American M3 "Grant" tanks by the British marked a crucial turning point, providing much-needed firepower and armor to counter the German threat. Ultimately, Rommel, with vastly outnumbered forces, was forced to retreat, marking the first significant Allied victory of the war and a decisive shift in the North African campaign.
