Nine Trees with Walter Pall: #1 European Spruce
Walter Pall tells the story of a European spruce he found along a ski slope during the early days of collecting bonsai in Europe. He describes how he came up with an approach for styling material that didn't start out looking like bonsai and shows us how the tree took on its current form after 30 years of training. It's now planted in a natural stone slab collected in Germany by Gunter Maintz. Along the way, Walter describes his purpose for working with bonsai and his secret for getting so much enjoyment out of the hobby. This video is part one of a nine part series filmed in Walter's garden following his Summer 2025 Masterclass hosted by Thomas Haering at the Bonsaigarten Munich.
