What Japanese Soldiers Wrote In Their Diaries After Fighting British Troops

In the summer of 1944, a Japanese officer wrote a single line in his notebook somewhere in the Burmese jungle. It took historians thirty years to fully understand what it meant. Not because it was difficult to translate. Because what it said about the British soldier was something no Japanese officer was ever supposed to write down. From Malaya in 1941 to the retreat from Imphal in 1944, the Japanese Army carried a specific belief about the British fighting man. That he was a colonial administrator with a rifle.
