Rent in Switzerland: Why Moving Can Cost You a Fortune | RTS To avoid being financially ruined by rent, the key is to never move. For its investigation, Mise au Point scrutinized rent trends for tens of thousands of apartments. The difference between those that have changed tenants and those that haven't is staggering. The decrease in the reference rate should allow for rent reductions in Switzerland. It must be said that this expense is weighing more and more heavily on household budgets, and our investigation shows that the best course of action is to never move or change leases. We analyzed rent variations for some 20,000 apartments in the Geneva region over ten years.
