Deutz DX140 Suitcase Weights Install + a Bad Silo Unloader Buy
In this video on Mahner Farms, I tackle a practical tractor ballast upgrade by installing new suitcase weights on the front of my Deutz DX 140 tractor. By the end of the project, I add roughly 720 pounds of front-end ballast to improve balance and handling, but the job does not go entirely as planned. The weight rod that came with the suitcase weights turns out to be too short, so I also have to manufacture a new custom weight rod to make everything work correctly. This video covers the full process of fitting the front weights, dealing with the unexpected fabrication work, and getting the Deutz tractor set up the way it should have been from the start. If you enjoy farm equipment repairs, tractor projects, custom metal fabrication, and practical upgrades for older farm machinery, this one has plenty to offer. The video also follows a frustrating but interesting side trip to pick up what was advertised as a Patz silo unloader. Me and three of my buddies drove about two and a half hours to buy it, only to discover after arriving that it was definitely not a Patz unloader and did not appear to be any other major brand still in service. After all the time and effort it took to get there and fully disassemble and remove it, I decided to buy it anyway for just $100. In the end, though, the unloader was not something I could realistically use in my 18-foot silo, so I kept the electric motor and decided the rest would be scrapped. This video documents the entire experience, from the Deutz DX 140 suitcase weight installation to the silo unloader boondoggle, and it also serves as a reminder that I am still looking for an 18 foot surface drive silo unloader, preferably a Patz gathering chain model. Keywords related to this project include Deutz DX 140, suitcase weights, tractor ballast, farm equipment repair, silo unloader, Patz silo unloader, tractor front weights, custom fabrication, old farm machinery, and dairy farm equipment. #MahnerFarms #DeutzTractor #SiloUnloader
