Avril Ramona Lavigne, born on September 27, 1984, is a Canadian singer-songwriter. She gained prominence at 16 with a two-album deal from Arista Records. Hit singles "Complicated" and "Sk8er Boi" established her as the "Pop-Punk Queen," shaping the pop-punk genre and opening doors for female-driven punk-inspired music in the early 2000s. "Under My Skin" (2004) marked her first Billboard 200 chart-topper, selling 10 million copies worldwide. "The Best Damn Thing" (2007) led by the single "Girlfriend" conquered charts in seven countries, including the Billboard Hot 100.
