WHFS 102.3 FM - Country Joe McDonald & Barry "đ" Melton Interview (unedited) 1979
Riots certainly arenât anything new. Thursday, July 12, 1979 was Disco Demolition Night, and the night when a 37 year old Joesph Allen âCountry Joeâ McDonald, and a 32 year old Barry âThe Fishâ Melton were inside the WHFS 102.3 FM studios on 4853 Cordell Ave in Bethesda, Maryland for an interview with Thomas Grooms, prior to their show later that evening at the Pysche Delly (4846 Cordell Ave). The story as I understand it: WHFS management decided to run a Joe Jackson concert out of the main studio from seven thirty to nine thirty, forcing Thom, Country Joe, and Barry Melton into an adjunct studio. As you can hear at the very beginning of this interview as the three of them were talking off-mic, Country Joe and Barry werenât too thrilled their interview wasnât going to be live, and that set the tone for the rest of the interview. Thom can fill-in any missing parts of the story. "David locked the 3rd floor auxiliary production studio so I whipped out my trusty 1978 Sears Roebuck Co solid state portable cassette tape player recorder...(thx Mother) ...They did accuse me of taking the hinges off the door to use the production studio"... (get er' done)...(thx Adele)...Jake stood up for me and said "Grooms a MacGyvver??? "No Way" he's just like Damian, too stoned to use a screwdriver plus I can't get him in there to cut spots!"... (thx Maestro) This interview is out there, outer space out there, in fact Country Joe and Barry talk about 20 years of outer space touring and its earth yearâs equivalent, Barryâs brown rice pudding recipe, and it gets weirder from there. We received all the lovely YouTube comments about the last version of this interview we posted, and as soon as we found this master audio cassette in the bottomless vault of interviews we digitized and now weâre reposting. Weâre always going to try and post the best quality audio. *Details:    â˘Â Barry Melton Newclip  *https://www.allmusic.com/artist/count... *https://www.countryjoe.com/ *   â˘Â Air Algiers (feat. Peter Green)  *   â˘Â Country Joe & The Fish ~ Donovan's Reef Ja...  *Post-production - Luke Grooms WMAL đż (2020) *IT Mgmt.: Once again Tech Bethesda (2023) *Enjoy, comment, subscribe, like this video and our other unedited WHFS 102.3 FM radio ID đ¤ recording sessions or đ¤đ *K-Wes Indi Records (2023)
