Professor Longhair "Tipitina" main riff slowed down blues piano tutorial
Signature riff from Professor Longhair's classic Tipitina, an 8 bar blues that echoes the structure of so many great New Orleans hits from Fats Domino's The Fat Man, Lloyd Price's Lawdy Miss Clawdy, Stagger Lee, Tee Nah Nah, et al. All of these were derived from the Junker's Blues (check out my other tutorials on this seminal Champion Jack Dupree track). As with any blues there is no definitive version - this one combines standard riffs with more challenging runs. Listen to Fess' multiple takes and covers by Dr.John, John Cleary, Dr.K, etc. Enjoy!
