It lies 434 km northwest of #Athens, 340 km southeast of #Thessaloniki and 95 km from #Ioannina. It has a #population of almost 900 permanent #residents. Syvota town is a well-developed #resort, that owes this steadily annual growth to the numerous pristine beaches with transparent clear waters in blue, turquoise and pool colour shades, located on the surrounding lacy shores. The earliest recorded inhabitants of the region are the Thesprotians, a #Greek #tribe of #Epirus. In #antiquity, here was the site of the Battle of Sybota, between #Corcyra (modern Corfu) and #Corinth. It was one of the immediate #catalysts for the P3eloponnesian War. During the Middle Ages, Syvota, like the rest of Epirus, was part of the #Byzantine Empire and the #Despotate of Epirus. Sivota is one of the most popular seaside resorts of western mainland Greece and during the summer it gathers a lot of #tourists from both Greece and abroad. The #settlement is built amphitheatrically in a small bay in which various islets are scattered, offering unlimited views.
