The source said the ship then struck a sea mine in the strategic waters of the Strait of Hormuz. Previously, on June 26, Iran issued a warning that ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz must follow the navigational route determined by Tehran's authorities. Iran and Oman previously held talks on navigational safety and maritime traffic management in the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said the discussions between the two countries were productive. He said Iran and Oman would continue technical and political consultations regarding the management of this strategic shipping lane. "The two sides exchanged views on general principles and operational mechanisms to ensure safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz," Baghaei said.
