Horemheb, un militar entre dos grandes Dinastías | Antiguo Egipto | Rosa Pujol

A new lecture in the 'Ancient Egypt' series focused on a key figure between the 18th and 19th Dynasties, Pharaoh Horemheb: "Horemheb, a Military Leader Between Two Great Dynasties." The speaker was, once again, Rosa Pujol, president of the Spanish Association of Egyptology, who outlined five key aspects of this pivotal figure in Egyptian history. She covered his origins and his first marriage to Amenia, his successful military career, his regency for Tutankhamun and the crown prince, his tomb in Saqqara, the succession disputes involving Ay and Nakhtmin, and his second marriage to Mutnedkhmet. Finally, she discussed his role as pharaoh, contextualizing it within his domestic and foreign policies, his image as a great usurper, the Decree, and the monuments: Damnatio memoriae and the monuments of predecessors. Finally, he will tell us about the length of his reign, his death without an heir, and the succession of Paramessw. The unfinished KV 57 tomb will be discussed, and the speaker will compare both tombs and talk about the first book of the Gates in KV 57.
