Amaia Montero Saldías (Irún, Gipuzkoa, Basque Country, August 26, 1976) is a Spanish pop singer-songwriter, recognizable for her distinctive melismatic style. She rose to fame as the lead vocalist of La Oreja de Van Gogh in December 1996. On November 19, 2007, she announced her departure from the group, beginning a new phase of composing and performing as a solo artist. Since the start of her career in 1996, she has sold over eight million records worldwide.
