Competitors: Nissan Pathfinder, Ford Explorer, Mitsubishi Montero Sport, Chevrolet Blazer, GMC Jimmy, Dodge Durango What Camerons Car Reviews has to say about the 2001 Toyota 4Runner: Now in it's 6th model year the 2001 Toyota 4Runner continues to stay in the midsize SUV market which is highly competitive with the 2001 Ford Explorer being the top sales king and another favorite is the rugged looking Nissan Pathfinder, but that was just to name a few in this crowded segment. Power in the 4Runner comes from a thirsty 3.4 L V6 made into a 4-Speed Automatic. On the interior of the 4Runner you will find it to be very utilitarian and very functional as well. Trims range from the SR5 to the luxurious Limited which will have all of the amenities many people desire. Of Course on top of that you have Toyota's famous reliability as well. So is this enough to compete? Well since the 4Runner is in it's 6th model year it is a bit outdated and a full redesign is needed since the 4Runner has pretty much looked the same since 1991 when the last generation was redesigned, but if your looking for a great off road capable SUV with superb reliability we see the 4Runner as a perfectionist as that.
