John Bowlby observed emotional deprivation and dysregulation, as well as an inability to form close and lasting relationships, in children who had been raised in normal families for some time but were then separated from their parents for extended periods. Such observations convinced Bowlby that it was impossible to understand development without paying close attention to the mother-child bond. How is this bond formed?
