In today’s video, we dig deep into both systems to see how they compare in the real world. After getting constant comments suggesting I try MeshCore, I reached out to active MeshCore communities across the U.S. — Boston, Southern California, the Pacific Northwest, Austin, and Omaha — to hear from people who have used both platforms at scale. What I found surprised me. Communities running large, high-hop, urban and regional meshes consistently reported stronger message reliability, routing behavior, and multi-hop performance on MeshCore. Others noted that Meshtastic still shines for small, mobile, ad-hoc groups where companion nodes and moving links matter more than fixed repeaters. In this video, we walk through those real-world experiences, routing differences, protocol behavior, hop limits, repeater strategies, packet sizes, congestion performance, and more. You’ll see live MeshCore traces from the massive Cascadia mesh, long-distance message testing, and insights from operators who migrated entire meshes after hitting the limits of Meshtastic. If you're trying to understand which platform fits your use case — neighborhood mesh, off-grid communications, emergency readiness, or regional repeater networks — this comparison breaks it all down. And if you're in Tennessee, we’re building the first MeshCore network here.
