A few weeks ago, the Chassons.com team went to Orbec, in Calvados, to the Riffaut gunsmith shop to discover and try out the new gunsmith product for the start of 2023, the Browning BAR 4X semi-automatic rifle. This weapon is the culmination of the legendary BAR rifle line, which has equipped a large number of big game hunters since the 1960s. While it retains the spirit and general design of its illustrious predecessors, the BAR 4X offers a wide range of new features such as an improved separate cocking unit, a guarantee of safety, inflex butt plates in four different sizes to adapt to all body types and reduce the inconvenience of recoil, and its proven gas borrowing system, a guarantee of reliability. Its barrel is threaded to allow the installation of a suppressor and is fitted into the receiver using a new process to further improve its intrinsic accuracy. This rifle is available in four finish models designed by the brand: Hunter, Elite, Platinum, and Ultimate. A configurator is available on the Browning website to create your own fully customized rifle, with over 600 possible combinations. After testing this rifle at the range, where it demonstrated great reliability and remarkable accuracy, Baudouin, our editor-in-chief, was able to try it out in hunting action in its Elite version, chambered for the 30.06 Springfield cartridge and equipped with the all-new Kite tubular red dot. Baudouin was able to make some beautiful shots and managed to harvest a wild boar and a young doe at respectable distances.
