Turning the pages of history shows that it was founded by Solanki Rajputs between 14th and 15th century. Baran was not a separate princely state, it was initially a part of Bundi and later the princely states like Kota and Jhalawar. This area has been under Rajput and sometimes under Mughal. After the end of the British era, when all the princely states were merged into present-day Rajasthan. Then Baran was not a district but only a town in Kota district. But on 10 April 1992, Baran was separated from Kota and made the 28th district of Rajasthan.
