While Latvia has long-standing brewing traditions dominated by pale lagers, smaller independent breweries have expanded the range of styles available in the capital. Riga now offers a mix of taprooms, specialist bars, and brewpubs serving both Latvian craft beer and imports from neighbouring Estonia and Lithuania. One of the most prominent names associated with modern Latvian craft beer is Labietis. Based in Riga, Labietis is known for using local herbs, spices, and historical inspirations in its recipes. Its beers often reinterpret traditional Baltic styles or explore experimental flavour profiles, including rye-based ales and seasonal brews featuring regional botanicals. Specialist beer bars focus on Latvian and Baltic craft products, often stocking limited releases and guest taps. These venues typically feature multiple draught lines and a curated bottle or can selection, highlighting the regional diversity of brewing across the Baltics. Riga’s craft beer scene is characterised by experimentation with traditional ingredients such as rye, juniper, honey, and forest berries. Sour beers and farmhouse-style ales have gained popularity, alongside globally recognised styles like New England IPAs and imperial stouts.
