TRIBUN-TIMUR.COM, MAROS - Hundreds of Hajj pilgrims from Maros Regency finally arrived at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport on Thursday (June 11, 2026). The 387 pilgrims were greeted by Maros Regent Chaidir Syam, Maros Deputy Regent Muetazim Mansyur, and Ahmad Ihyadin, Head of the Maros Regency Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. A number of female pilgrims were seen wearing brightly colored, ornate clothing, known locally as "bling-bling" attire, typical of returning Hajj pilgrims. Meanwhile, male pilgrims were seen wearing robes and turbans, still worn from their journey home from Saudi Arabia. Many also brought various souvenirs from the Holy Land, from bags and clothing to Zamzam water and even camel dolls. Hasna, a pilgrim from Tanralili District, admitted to deliberately tidying up her appearance while still on the plane before landing in Makassar. "Yes, I put on my makeup on the plane. But I had already worn my clothes from Mecca," Hasna said with a beaming smile. The farmer expressed relief at finally being able to perform the Hajj, her long-cherished dream. She said she had waited about 15 years from registering to getting the chance to travel to the Holy Land. During that waiting period, she gradually saved up the funds for the Hajj from farming. "I waited about 15 years. I saved from farming," she said. Hasna admitted she couldn't contain her joy when her plane landed in Indonesia. She said the entire Hajj ritual went smoothly and was an unforgettable spiritual experience. "I feel relieved and happy. Thank God I was able to worship in the Holy Land and return safely," she said. Besides bringing back memories, Hasna also brought several souvenirs for her family and neighbors back home. "There are many souvenirs: clothes, wallets, bracelets, and even a stuffed camel for my grandchild," she said. Meanwhile, Maros Regent Chaidir Syam, who personally welcomed the pilgrims, stated that all members of Group 14 returned home safely. The group was an intact group, with all pilgrims coming from Maros Regency. "Thank God, everyone is intact and has returned safely," said Chaidir. He explained that Group 14 had 387 pilgrims, consisting of 127 men and 260 women. According to Chaidir, the pilgrims were generally in good health, although some required wheelchair assistance upon disembarking. "There are some who use wheelchairs, maybe five to seven people due to their age and fatigue after the long journey," he said. Chaidir also revealed that one pilgrim had suffered a stroke while in Jeddah. However, the pilgrim's condition is gradually improving and they received immediate treatment upon arrival in Indonesia. After arriving at Sultan Hasanuddin Airport, all pilgrims were then taken to the Sudiang Hajj Dormitory for the official reception and handover process.
