Though not a single recording of his music was officially released in his own country, he even achieved fame back home in his native land. His records had to be smuggled back to Russia and were also bootlegged there. His songs were then listened to in secret. He became a legend for his tangos and gipsy romances, and the fascination of his historical recordings remains strong to this day. They have been restored with the outmost care..
