European experience in strategic planning of regional development

On June 10, 2026, the Ukraine Crisis Media Center will host the presentation of an analytical review on regional development planning experiences in European countries. The study was prepared by the Swiss-Ukrainian Project DECIDE in the context of updating Ukraine's state regional policy and preparing for the European Union's new programming cycle for 2028–2034. The analytical review covers the experiences of Switzerland, Sweden, Ireland, Spain, Croatia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Romania, Poland, as well as Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, and Montenegro. During the event, the key findings of the study and recommendations for improving the strategic planning system in Ukraine will be presented. Additionally, an expert discussion will be held, dedicated to updating approaches to regional development planning in Ukraine. Invited participants include representatives from the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories, the Ministry of Economy, the DECIDE Project, Oblast State Administrations (OSAs), regional development agencies, the expert community, international projects, and local self-government associations.
