Norfolk & Western And Southern Locomotives Team Up To Move A Heavy Train. CSX Coke Train Hits The Railroad Diamonds In Greenwich. Wheeling & Lake Erie Train With Rio Grande Locomotive On A Fast Train In Ohio. When was the last time that you saw a Norfolk & Western Railway and a Southern Railroad locomotive working together. The Southern lettering can barely be seen but it is an ex Southern MP15DC. We chase this train past the abandoned switch to Kiblers and past the abandoned Lindsey Road crossing and all the way up the Williamsburg Hill. This is the Cincinnati Eastern Railroad in southern Ohio, USA. I also added some railroad diamond action in Greenwich, Ohio. We see a CSX coke train crossing the diamonds and a Wheeling & Lake Erie train going around the diamonds. The W&LE train has a Rio Grande Heritage Unit leading and is at a 6 track railroad crossing. I have several videos from this location. The coke train is a pretty good eastbound unit train catch. Check out that awesome view of the locomotives rocking over the diamonds. That is pretty cool. What is coke? Coke is a grey, hard, and porous coal-based fuel with a high carbon content. It is made by heating coal or petroleum in the absence of air. Coke is an important industrial product, used mainly in the smelting of iron ore. The industrial production of coke from coal is called coking. The coal is baked in an airless kiln, a coke furnace or coking oven, at temperatures as high as 3,600 °F but usually around 1,800–2,000 °F. This process vaporises or decomposes organic substances in the coal, driving off water and other volatile and liquid products such as coal gas and coal tar. Coke is the non-volatile residue of the decomposition, the cemented-together carbon and mineral residue of the original coal particles in the form of a hard and somewhat glassy solid. It is used to produce steel. Beyond steel production, coke is widely utilized in blacksmithing and for industrial heating because it burns very cleanly with little to no smoke.
