Pointe d’Esny is a small coastal village on the south‑east coast of Mauritius, between Blue Bay and Mahébourg in the Grand Port district. Historically it was a quiet fishermen’s area, and its name comes from Esny, assistant to Abbé de la Caille, a French cartographer who helped map the island during the French occupation in the 18th century. For a long time it remained relatively unknown and accessed mainly as the route to Blue Bay, but with tourism development in the 20th century, hotels like the early Croix du Sud (now Preskil Beach Resort) began to appear along its lagoon.
