But as the prophet Samuel famously told King Saul, "To obey is better than sacrifice." Saul tried to mask his incomplete obedience by keeping the forbidden spoils of war under the guise of wanting to "sacrifice them to the Lord." But God didn't want Saul's burnt offerings; He wanted his alignment.
