The budget-friendly option: Strautmann has redesigned the Giga-Trailer. Like Schuitemaker's model, the body is no longer tapered. The cargo cover doesn't extend far enough to the rear of the load. Now we're standing here in front of the Strautmann Giga-Trailer 460. Strautmann has relaunched the Giga-Trailer series. The metering rollers are driven by a PTO shaft, and the moving floor is hydraulically driven. This is an option. The moving floor can also be mechanically driven upon request. The new feature of the Strautmann trailer is that the gaps between the two chain strands in the middle have been reduced. This means less material gets trapped between the chains. However, the chains on the outside don't extend completely to the non-conical outer wall, so some material remains in the cart. The scraper floor operates in two stages. The two stages are connected in series or parallel, so that with heavy material, you start with the first stage – for metering – and can then switch to the second stage. This empties the cart in about 70 seconds. The round steel chain is tensioned externally via these tensioners. You can easily see inside the cart – it works well. Unlike other manufacturers, Strautmann has connected the master cylinders with a chain rather than directly mounting an oil motor on the shaft, so these horns protrude slightly. Strautmann also uses a classic frame design, meaning: We have a galvanized frame onto which the entire superstructure is bolted. The axle assembly is hydraulically sprung. And just like with Krone, we liked the LED strips for interior lighting. Strautmann stiffens the trailer with two cross braces, which the other test candidates, except for Bergmann, don't need. At 8,200 kg, it's the lightest in the comparison. With a loading volume of approximately 41 m³, the Gigatrailer has the highest payload at 15.8 t. The cargo cover could provide better coverage of the rear of the trailer. The trailer is also lower-hitched and, in this configuration, features forced steering via a hydraulic cylinder that sends oil to the axle – this makes things relatively tight at the hitch when cornering, as you can see here. In this configuration, the Gigatrailer is the most affordable trailer in the comparison. The 460 D costs €81,200 excluding VAT.
