Santa Fe to Taos Day 6: My “Easy” Day Wasn’t So Easy

Day 6 on the Santa Fe to Taos Trail was supposed to be my “easy” day. I slept in, grabbed my resupply in Tres Ritos, and planned on a relaxed Nero… but between steep climbs, a side trip up La Cueva Peak, afternoon rain, a heavy water carry, and some campsite confusion, it still turned into 11 miles and 2,700 feet of climbing. Not exactly easy, but that’s backpacking.
