Little Shop of Horrors Keyboard Sound Demos (1982 Edition)
Hello everyone! My name is Russ and today I will be demonstrating My recreations of the original keyboard patches from The 1982 Off-Broadway Production of Little Shop of Horrors which opened at the Orpheum Theatre 40 years ago today on July 27th, 1982. The original keyboards in the show were stacked in the following order from top to bottom: 1. The Korg Polysix analogue synthesizer, 2. The Korg CX-3 clone wheel organ and 3. The Mark II Rhodes Stage Piano 73. The only references I had in recreating these sounds were from less-than-legitimate recordings available on YouTube since the cast album used different synths and keyboards than the ones used in the stage show. Through repeated listening I was able to get a profile of their sound. Thanks to VST emulations of the Korg Polysix and the Korg CX-3, as well as the MainStage emulation of the Mark II, I have been able to successfully recreate these patches and program them as MainStage concerts for either one keyboard (88 keys) or in a more ideal setup, two keyboards with a minimum of 73 keys on the lower keyboard and a minimum of 61 keys on the upper one. I may make further updates to these patches and sounds at a later point, but for now I am satisfied with their sound, especially in comparison to the original recordings I mentioned earlier. Please note, since there is a lot of overlap, I will not play every organ patch, but I will cover most of them. I will however play all of the patches for the Korg Polysix. I am playing from memory of the score, since I no longer have it. For more information or to contact me directly, please visit my website dedicated to the topic: lsohkeyboards.weebly.com
