Black Disciple Legend Who United Chicago's Gangs, Raised One Finger & Was Shot 3 Times: White Cloud
White Cloud, born Jefferson Baptiste, was a leading figure in the Black Disciples (BD) and is remembered by many as the right-hand man to King Shorty Freeman. According to community history, he created the One Love movement, built the Disciple Center, and worked to unite Black Disciples and Gangster Disciples during one of Chicago’s most violent eras. But there was another man known as White Cloud in Chicago—a Black P. Stones enforcer whose name survived in official records because of the Jon Burge police torture cases. Two men. One name. Only one entered the archive. This documentary examines the life of Jefferson Baptiste through oral history, historical records, gang history research, and the evidence that still survives. It explores his role in Chicago’s South Side, the origins of the One Love philosophy, the mystery surrounding his death, and why a man remembered by so many left almost no official paper trail.
