Cambokeels Mine - County Durham

Cambokeels mine is situated alongside the River Wear between the picturesque villages of Westgate and Eastgate in Weardale, County Durham. Cambrookeels Mine was originally opened in 1868 for mining lead but by 1872 was closed. It reopened in the 20th century for the mining of fluorspar and operated on and off between 1905 and the 1980s in various guises. In 1991 its final owner, The Minworth Group, went bankrupt and all its sites were abandoned, including Cambokeels mine. We visited in August 2022. https://www.subbrit.org.uk/sites/camb... https://www.mindat.org/loc-1410.html https://www.aditnow.co.uk/documents/C...
