182. Identidad de género y diversidad en la programación cultural

In this episode of the Cultural Management podcast, I share a profound and practical reflection on one of the most necessary debates in the cultural sector today: gender identity and diversity in cultural programming. Today I discuss why cultural programming has never been a neutral act and how the decisions we make as cultural managers determine which voices, bodies, and life experiences deserve public space. I explain the difference between superficial and structural representation, because including an LGBTQ+ themed artistic proposal once a year is not the same as transforming decision-making processes from within. I also share the three arguments I consider fundamental for defending programming with a gender diversity perspective before teams, boards of directors, or institutions: the cultural argument, the ethical argument, and the economic argument. Furthermore, I discuss how all of this translates into concrete actions: from programming audits to expanding networks for seeking artistic proposals, including the importance of guaranteeing dignified conditions for artists of diverse gender identities. And I'll close with something I believe is essential: how to manage internal team debate with honesty, without imposing or evading the issue. This is an essential episode for cultural management professionals committed to a more pluralistic culture. Learn more at akultura.org
