In the mountains of Acosta, 22 kilometers from San Ignacio, there's a place almost no one knows about. It's called Tiquires—and its name means "place of waters." It was once a real village. With houses, a school, a church, a dairy, and a sawmill. Around 28 families lived there, sustained by the vision of a dreamy lawyer named Junior, who decided to build a self-sufficient community in the heart of the Costa Rican forest. In 1986, it disappeared. We went looking for it.
