Catholic Mass issues and etiquette- Pray together. Sing together. The Catholic Mass calls us to participate in the congregational community. Praying, together, as one, simultaneously and singing as one gives a lot of strength to the Mass, and are clearly parts of a communal celebration.And yet, there are people who do not like to sing and remain spectators (I admit, I am sometimes one of them!). And sometimes the prayers do not feel quite- together! In this video Jack and I look at 2 articles from The Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, and discuss their meaning for us in the congregation. 48 The Church, therefore, earnestly desires that Christ's faithful, when present at this mystery of faith, should not be there as strangers or silent spectators; on the contrary, through a good understanding of the rites and prayers they should take part in the sacred action conscious of what they are doing, with devotion and full collaboration. 114. The treasure of sacred music is to be preserved and fostered with great care. Choirs must be diligently promoted, especially in cathedral churches; but bishops and other pastors of souls must be at pains to ensure that, whenever the sacred action is to be celebrated with song, the whole body of the faithful may be able to contribute that active participation which is rightly theirs, as laid down in Art. 28 and 30.
