The embarrassing "collateral damage" of Germany's electric car subsidies is that the grants, up to €6,000 per vehicle financed with taxpayer money, ultimately go to the Chinese manufacturer. And the trend is rising. The crisis-ridden VW giant is left empty-handed. A reversal of this funding is not foreseeable in the long term because Volkswagen's production costs are too high.
