On February 27th, the latest installment in the Resident Evil series, Resident Evil Requiem, was released. It's been three years since RE:4, and five years since RE:Village. Originally planned as an open-world multiplayer game, it fortunately fell through, and the series returned to the single-player format we know today. Notably, the game incorporates elements reminiscent of The Last of Us, a crafting system, and the inclusion of elite mobs, among other subtle changes to the gameplay and level design. This likely stems from the development of the open-world multiplayer game, and given the various homages to older games, it's possible they were also drawn in reverse. The game feels more action-oriented, so those who prefer horror games like RE:VII may find it disappointing. Personally, my first impression was less impactful than RE:VII, RE:2, and RE:4.
