Built in 1955, the Nugget Casino Resort was originally named Dick Graves' Nugget until 1960 when John Ascuaga's Nugget purchased and owned the property until 2013. Today, the resort is owned by Century Casinos. The Nugget Casino Resort is the only major casino resort in the city of Sparks where most of the tourist resorts are located in the adjacent city of Reno. The resort is also famous for hosting the Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-off event that is held annually in September.
