Step-by-Step Guide to Creating a Juniper Bonsai Rock Planting! In this video, Eric demonstrates how to prep a bonsai pot, rock, and two-year-old Juniper to create a bonsai rock planting. Proper root work - how to properly place roots against and under the rock and into the pot - is essential to ensure the trees' roots remain healthy. Eric uses muck to help secure the roots in place. Muck is a mixture of akadama fine (from Japan), sphagnum moss (from New Zealand), and basic pottery clay. He works them all together and moistens before applying to the planting. This rock has a cast resin based to anchor it easily at the angle Eric wants it. Watch how to choose tree placement on the rock, and at what stage to wire and style the branches.
