Frankfurt Airport has opened its new Terminal 3: three new piers, a four billion euro investment in the southern part of the airport grounds. Emirates, Qatar Airways, British Airways, Air France, KLM, and many others are relocating. Terminal 2 in the north of the airport grounds will then be empty. The logical consequence would have been for Lufthansa to now renovate Terminal 2 in addition to Terminal 1 in Frankfurt, then move in and expand in Frankfurt. Instead, Lufthansa announced: We are building a completely new terminal pier in Munich. Why? Quite simply: Things work very differently in Munich with the dedicated Lufthansa terminal than in Frankfurt: There, Lufthansa holds a 40 percent stake in the Terminal 2 operating company. This means that 40 percent of the profits from shops, restaurants, and the entire terminal operation flow back to Lufthansa. Ultimately, Munich is more financially advantageous for Lufthansa. However, Munich also opened something new this spring: a completely new pier at Terminal 1 for 665 million euros – featuring CT scanners, a central marketplace, an A380 parking position with three jet bridges, and, for the first time at Munich Airport, leather seats. But this pier is initially being built for Lufthansa's competitors, meaning all airlines outside the Star Alliance. In this video, we explain exactly what was opened in Frankfurt and Munich and what this means for the airlines – and why a joint venture is the crucial difference between Lufthansa's two German home hubs. 🔗 LINKS TO THE TOPICS: How Terminal 3 completely restructures Frankfurt Airport: https://www.airliners.de/terminal-3-f...
