There are two important theorem of probability, namely: 1 Addition Theorem 2. Multiplication Theorem Addition Theorem Condition 1. When Events are mutually exclusive The addition theorem states that if two events A and B are mutually exclusive the probability of the occurrence of either A or B is the sum of the individual probability of A and B. Symbolically, P(A or B) = P(A) + P(B) This theorem can be extended to three or more mutually exclusive events. P(A or B or C) = P(A) + P (B) + P(C) Condition 2. When Events are not Mutually exclusive For finding the probability of one or more of two events that are not mutually exclusive we use the modified form of the addition theorem.
