Maliq & D'Essentials - Penasaran | Sounds From The Corner Session #2

"There was a time when ""Terdiam"" was a regular in local music charts, and “Untitled” was the song that everyone would seem to include in a mixtape dedicated to a potential paramour, boombox over head optional. Pretty sure this was around the same time when high schools and universities all over Indonesia were sort of competing to bring Maliq & D' Essentials to headline their pensi, one of which I attended and thus exposed me to their music. Still, I was only today years old when I discovered that “Maliq” in Maliq & D’Essentials stands for Music And Live Instrument Quality. Boy, do they live up to their name. With 7 albums in their repertoire, Maliq & D' Essentials been having each foot set in the best of both worlds--masterful jazz composition wrapped with catchy arrangements. The live instrument quality part of their moniker was recently immortalized in what soon becomes The Essential Hits – Recorded Live in London. Recorded in the iconic Abbey Road studios, the yet-released live album will include handpicked songs from the span of their 17 years old career, as well as a new song dubbed Senja Teduh Pelita which was released early in 2019. It’s not the first time their music has ever graced the wooden halls of Abbey. From their 5th album onwards, materials in the works were recorded and mixed in Jakarta before being sent across the Atlantic to be mastered in London’s own Abbey Road. No matter how far their musical journey has taken them, coming home to their earlier works is always a good idea. With songs taken from the aptly named album “The Beginning Of A Beautiful Life”, we present to you Maliq & D' Essentials.
