He is one of the most renowned Indian historians, with his research focusing on environmental, social, economic, political, contemporary and cricket history. Guha authored an acclaimed two-volume biography of Mahatma Gandhi in 2013 and then 2018. In November 2020, he published his new book “The Commonwealth of Cricket: A Lifelong Love Affair with the Most Subtle and Sophisticated Game Known to Humankind”; a rich account of the history of cricket in India over the past decades. Ramachandra Guha was also actively involved in India’s political life; a vocal dissentor of Prime Minister Modi’s citizenship law that discriminated Muslims, he was arrested in 2019 during a protest.
