Today, the Japanese hardly attempt to challenge the undisputed cruiser superpower; after the disappearance of Victory, only Indian remains as a broadly positioned competitor. Reason enough for BMW to seize the opportunity and fill the vacancy with a fresh start in the big bike segment. Not with a V-twin, of course, but with the boxer engine, which isn't considered an ideal powerplant for a cruiser setup, primarily due to the lack of alternative footrest positions.
