Vladimir Ashkenazy was born in Gorky, in 1937. He has lived in Soviet Union, in England, in Iceland and in Switzerland, but he spent most of his professional life travelling. He is unusually private and all-assuming for his profession and yet he is known and affectionately remembered by millions of people all over the world.
