The ninth-generation pickup features a refreshed design and a mild-hybrid powertrain powered by diesel fuel. The Toyota Hilux is now available with an electric powertrain, but the 48-volt diesel engine remains the most popular option. The Hilux has retained its body-on-frame construction, just like before, although the thickness of the chassis side rails has been increased, the front crossmember has been reinforced and redesigned to accommodate electric power steering instead of hydraulic, and the front suspension struts have also been reinforced. There is also a fully electric version, but this 48-volt diesel engine will remain the most common option. It comes exclusively with an automatic transmission.
