The city is currently managing rapid growth, with over 10,000 new residential addresses approved or under construction as of early 2026. A major project to reduce downtown flooding using a new stormwater berm in Triple Creek Park is slated to begin in early 2026. It is home to Volunteer State Community College and major facilities for companies like Meta (Facebook), Gap, Inc., and Beretta. Established in 1802 and named after Albert Gallatin, it has a rich Civil War history and once served as the headquarters for Dot Records.
