Full Hike (Not Stabilized): The Forehead, Nose, Chin (& Adam's Apple) of Mount Mansfield in Vermont

They stand like alien structures, emitting unseen signatures of our humble human presence to the nearby cosmic neighborhood. The fog attenuates their towering construct and the persistent hums emitted by the industrial complex that keeps everything broadcasting. The fog diminishes the mighty mountain itself. But as the clouds dissipate and Sol illuminates on all earthly atoms, it is evident why Mount Mansfield is one of the premier outdoor destinations in the Green Mountain State. To the west are Burlington, as Vermont's most populous city, and Lake Champlain, with its own version of camera-shy Triassic resident. Commanding northern and southern views showcase Mansfield positioning as highest peak of the Greens. A popular ski resort lies adjacent, at the base of eastern slopes. Finally, farther out is a network of charming rural towns/villages. The Long Trail crosses the summit, where rare alpine tundra vegetation inhabits. For those with less time, the loop hike from Underhill State Park is more suitable (plus, to descend on the Sunset Ridge Trail is a special treat). There are other routes, with a range of difficulty. It is also possible to drive a toll road up the mountain. Mount Mansfield's namesake features can be discerned only at ground level. If viewing from either east or west, facial structures are recognizable. Perhaps as a bit of imaginative stretch, per (instead of Nose) the Chin actually being highest. Location: Underhill, Vermont, USA Date/Time: 2018-06-08 14:27 My Thoughts: I do not go to the Adam's Apple in the video (but did hike there the day before; there was not much to see because of the clouds). I also skip the CCC Road overlook at 00:26:50 because the view is partially obscured by trees. I would highly recommend going down (instead of ascending) Sunset Ridge for the constant breathtaking views. The short Cantilever Rock side trip was worth it and would make a good resting space. Finally, this summit is one of those places where it is paramount to not wander off-trail, due to the unique/fragile ecosystem. #Hiking
