Calmac MV Saturn - Last Days of her Clyde Service
Now probably one of the eldest ship of the Calmac Fleet , first commissioned into service as far back as 1978 and one of three purpose-built ships for the upper Firth of Clyde services affectionately known as Clyde Streakers. She had to run south from Ardrossan , as the sea-state was about Force 5 , then come North up the Arran coast , here we see her coming out of the rain-soaked mist but still only five minutes late upon arrival at Brodick. Finally withdrawn to Rosneath on 30th August 2011 and hasn't been out since as far as I know , unless anyone can tell me different! Defying all expectations of the cutter's torch , Saturn would go onto live a new life up at Stromness under the ownership of Pentland Ferries Ltd finally leaving the Clyde on 22nd April 2015 after nearly four years in Mothballs , carrying the name ORCADIA.
